Antica Tritone Trattoria

Antica Tritone Trattoria is a very nice restaurant that serves up the most excellent food. Add to that the comfortable surroundings and the great service and it's a winner. This place is absolutely worth a visit. (Jes)

Part of a Tokyo-wide chain, this always-busy standing bar keeps things simple. Just 25 people can squeeze around the sleek circular bar, mostly hip Ebisu locals who come for the drink and stay for the food. Specialising in one-cup sake from around Japan, the friendly staff help navigate you through the endless varieties on offer. Meanwhile the smoke from the grilled dishes tempts you to dive into the extensive menu. Fish, meat and vegetable dishes start from S$4.30. (Davis)

Eateries in Sydney

Just a few from Sydney Australia, where it is possible (with a little effort) to get great food and atmosphere on any budget: (Ben)

  • Superbowl & BBQ King (multiple locations in Chinatown) - authentic food, atmosphere, especially until very late;
  • Soup Plus on George St, good food and great atmosphere as a jazzy/folksy club;
  • Harry's Cafe at Woolloomooloo, ask for the 'tiger' pie & peas. Great location, open very late. - Arthur's Pizza (multiple locations), eastern suburbs delivery;
  • $5 steak dinners (or schnitzel, salads etc) with a drink; Forresters Surry Hills & almost all non-yuppie streetside pubs in the inner city and suburbs
  • Favourite of all is Phuong, Vietnamese, in Crows Nest, with a bottle or two of wine, and the atmosphere, great family-run service and the best smells and taste

Modern Toilet Restaurant

Modern Toilet Restaurant located at Xi Men Ding is an interesting restaurant. From the moment you step into the restaurant, everything you see is toilet associated. The seats are actually our normal water closet; the tables are made up of bathtubs. Even the food is served in toilet accessories. Hot pots are served in mini water closet, gratin in mini bathtubs, cold drinks are serve in urinal. It might sound disgusting but the display is actually quite cute and presentable. For a minimum cost, you can even bring the plastic urinal home as souvenir! Most important, the food there is not very expensive (around NT300++ per set) and quite tasty. The serving portion is also quite big. (Kim, Homemaker)

New York Restaurant

In Toronto there are multiple choices. My favourite is the New York Restaurant - quasi Greek with really cheap breakfast (US$3.75 before 11 a.m.) and a single pizza for US$7 that is so large it is 2 meals. (Michelle)

Saltwater Cafe/Burrito Brothers

In my true hometown of Clearwater (FL) nothing beats Frenchy's on Clearwater Beach for grouper sandwiches. My favorite location is the Saltwater Cafe and my favorite grouper treatment is Buffalo, but they also do it cajun blackened, jerk, grilled or fried.

In my college town of Gainesville (FL) the local favorite is Burrito Brothers located at 13th and University. It has been around for ever and makes awesome burritos and the best red sauce ever.

Tommy's Burgers

In LA, Tommy's Burgers are the best, and truly only known to locals. It's been twenty years, but right now I've got a craving for those greasy chili burgers J. (Derrick)

Tsim Chai Kee Noodle

The best dumpling place called Tsim Chai Kee Noodle which is an Hong Kong institution that the expat community knows about (they also have a second site at 61 Connaught Road in Central). We had fabulous dumplings -- huge and stuffed with shrimp in soup with noodles. What a treat for my budget. The bill was only only HKD15.00. (Lynn, Student)
